Christina Amezquita has been a photographer for four years. Her images primarily employ the female body. “My photography is about the being feeling rejected and castigated being honest and being myself, the domination of fear, stubbornness and reliance, failure, empowerment, challenging and terrifying stripping of the self, beauty, being confident and self indulgent, intimacy, and detachment, subjectivity of defining, filling in nothing, patience and anxiety, how I see myself, how I think other people see me, how I imagine other people see women, and sharing my everyday reality with you as a fantasy in your life. To you it’s something ancillary, a prop, special, unusual, different, a secret, something intimate, it’s about sex, bd/sm, and to me it’s just my everyday normal life. Why pick something “sexy” because it’s just as personal, captivating, and intimate as fear. Mix them together and it sends an even sharper message”.
Her photography has been displayed at the KGB Gallery, 2nd St. Cigar and Art's Lounge, Gallery at the End of the World, Liquid City Productions, Royal Clayton, J Ferrari Gallery, Digital Arts Studio (Bruce), and the Art Slave Gallery. She is also part of the Arroyo Arts Collective which features Northeast Los Angeles Artists.
She interned for the Black Cat Gallery and the Art Slave Gallery. Also she worked as a freelance graphic designer for Imagen Records. Each experience has developed her understanding of marketing in the art industry. Collaborating with new artists has become a significant part of her role as an artist.
Christina is an organizer of art events in the Los Angeles night scene. The events employ visual artists and live musicians (preferably local bands with female leads and or Latin based bands). For examples please view her myspace photo albums.
Outside of the arts scene Christina is the Outreach Director of the Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council. She volunteers in her community regularly to promote animal resources, appreciation for the arts, education, community development, and public safety.
